Thanks for your question. There are some lenders who support self build lending in Scotland, albeit they are few and far between.

Most lenders involved in self building lending currently are building societies and their policy unfortunately doesn’t cover lending in Scotland due to the different legal systems that exist between England/Wales and Scotland.

Those that do are Newcastle and Furness, both of whom offer self build mortgages only through BuildStore or BuildLoan (BuildLoan works with Mortgage Brokers/Intermediaries on your behalf).

In addition, both the Halifax and Scottish Building Society offer self build products in Scotland.

Airdrie Savings Bank (airdriesavingsbank.com) can also consider self build mortgages, and they would be worth a call to discuss your options.

There are also some bridging lenders based in England that will consider funding a self build in Scotland, but it is all down to location.

Have you got a main contractor in place as well as insurance? If not then I can provide you with some contacts who would be able to give you a competitive quote and a good service. Unfortunately we are unable to offer a self build product, but it is something that we are looking into.
