The National Self Build and Renovation Centre (NSBRC) has been crowned Newsquest business awards’ Small Business of the Year 2017.

The UK’s only permanent self-build visitor centre has been run by its employees since 2014 and witnessed its greatest ever footfall in 2016, with over 16,000 visitors. Founded in 2007, the NSBRC is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

As well as winning the Small Business of the Year award the NSBRC was also a finalist in the creative marketing and outstanding excellence categories.

“It is a real team-effort at the NSBRC, with all the staff being employee-owners, so to be recognised in this way is a proud moment for us all and a great reward for the efforts we have gone to, to ensure visiting this fantastic resource is as enjoyable and useful an experience as possible,” says Harvey Fremlin, NSBRC managing director.

The Swindon-based centre is open Tuesday to Sunday, year round, offering a dependable resource for those tackling a self-build, renovation, extension or conversion.

The NSBRC boasts three full size exhibition houses on permanent display, educational areas covering everything from groundworks and foundations, to building systems and roof types, plus a full-scale renovation house that takes visitors on a practical step-by-step journey of a major renovation project
