arboreta

Mr & Mrs Marjoram’s brief to Arboreta was to create a family room to enable them to enjoy more of the wonderful views of the garden and far reaching views beyond.

A key consideration in the design of the project was that the elevation in question was south facing, so we knew that heat was going to be an issue, and the Marjorams did not want a conservatory with a large glass roof but a room that would be comfortable to use all year-round.

This brief was considered by our architectural designer and he cleverly came up with a design for a garden room with exposed oak rafters to the inside of the roof.

These exposed rafters, in the vaulted roof space, create warmth and character within the room. We also included a king truss across the roof, as the Marjoram’s wished to see as much of the roof detail as possible.

To maximise their views, we designed a glazed gable with minimal sightlines to allow extra light to stream into the room.

French doors were added off to the side of the room to enable the Marjorams to step onto their patio area to enjoy morning coffee.

Arboreta obtained planning and listed consents for the oak framed extension and completed the building on time and on budget.

The Marjorams were delighted with the finished result and enjoy spending time with friends and family in this new addition to the home.
