The brief for this project was to incorporate an additional sitting room suitable for year-round use, in which to enjoy the garden views and, indeed, feel more connected to the garden.
The main house has a few beams, which the client enjoys, and this feature was something that the Matthews family wanted to replicate in much greater volume to give warmth and character to the new room.
The team at Arboreta introduced a faceted garden room and glazed link design. The Matthews loved the idea that this structure had no corners as it didn’t impose too greatly on the size of the plot.
This garden room, with its tiled roof and glazed sides, maintains a perfect year-round temperature.
The room features a striking vaulted ceiling with exposed oak roof beams that really makes it something special to sit in every day.
We installed two sets of French doors, one from the link to the terrace and this link area has proved to be a delightfully bright and sunny spot to sit in, do a crossword and have morning coffee, and it also provides the perfect temperature for most house plants to thrive in.
There is another set of French doors leading off the garden room again onto the terrace.
Our team at Arboreta gained the relevant listed consents and our client used a local builder to construct the foundations and walls.
This room has transformed how our clients use the house and is a popular place for friends and family to congregate.
