Timber staircase by Keating Joinery

This project was for a local builder in Pembrokeshire, South Wales.

The staircase’s timber components were in solid European Oak to be in keeping with the surrounding oak joinery, skirting board, door linings, doors & architrave etc.

The unique design was manufactured in Germany by our partners Kenngott, which we hold the installation rights of staircases in Wales & the UK.

The design is open ended, open rise and is also set off the main radius wall by 4cm allowing maximum light to pass through the staircase. One of it’s main eye catching features is that it has a hanging look, free from any vertical supports including the special sizeable first floor landing.

The landing had to be extended to set the staircase main flight away from the ground floor door opening directly beneath the hanging landing.

The Kengott stair

The Kengott stair is a self-supporting structure, which has no supporting stringers or load bearing oversized handrails. The stairwell is free and transparent. This makes the stair look light, almost floating.

Regardless of the open floating  look, Kenngott’s WF2 design is a very strong bolted construction capable of taking 3.5kn/m2 imposed loading. It complies with UK Building Regulations, the ETA (European Technical Approval) and also British Standards.

Kenngott’s staircases offer many more design choices, including the following materials and options:

  • Stairs made of solid wood
  • Longlife stairs
  • Stone stairs made of granite, marble or artificial stone
  • Glass staircases
