Award-Winning Sustainable Self Build

This project required demolition of an existing fire damaged property and rebuilding it to reflect the tastes of the client; incorporating traditional and contemporary features into a well-considered design that complements its setting while simultaneously being highly sustainable. The clients were very interested in making the home energy efficient, while creating dramatic spaces within the design. Lapd were able to advise the client on sustainable solutions appropriate for the house. This included high levels of thermal performance, good airtightness but also simple passive measures like high-level opening rooflights that have dramatically helped in keeping the house cool in recent hot summers. This has resulted in providing the client with not only an A-rated home, but also a comfortable and affordable internal environment all year round. This project won the 2023 Build It Award for Best Brick Home.
