Until Lifestiles introduced the Woburn Collection, reclaimed tiles were the only way to produce a genuine, mature looking roof. The Woburn range of handmade clay tiles and fittings was developed to give the same aesthetic appeal, but with the quality assurance and longevity advantages of a new tile.
Every tile is handmade and unique, as is every roof. There are five shades included:
– Woburn Finchingfield
– Woburn Medium
– Woburn Old Red
– Woburn Lavenham
– Reclamation Mix
Our Woburn Finchingfield handmade clay tile fits perfectly into many rural settings and the aesthetics of existing buildings. Its orange/red clay is mellowed with a subtle weathered looking surface.
Traditionally, all tiles would have been made with clay local to the works and fired without using pigments to enhance colour. Only in recent years have we managed to simulate weathered tiles. The Woburn Old Red is the perfect example – with its subtle colour variation caused by slight temperature differences in the kiln.
Designed to give a warmer mellow appeal than the Woburn Old Red, our Woburn Medium is a characteristic replication of a subtly weathered reclaimed tile. With its natural colour variation caused in the kiln, a medium roof works well on all types of property from listed buildings to contemporary developments.
The Woburn Lavenham mirrors the character and shades of the roofs of the globally admired medieval homes in the Suffolk town that shares its name. Similar to the Woburn Medium, extra character arises from darker, harder fired tiles that blend naturally to give an extra aged patina.
The Woburn Reclamation Mix provides the texture and shade variation of reclaimed tiles, but with all the advantages of a new tile. Sourcing large batches of reclaimed tiles and matching fittings can be a problem; but not with the Reclamation Mix. Packed pre-blended in crates, the contractor does not need to blend colours as they are laid.
