Our Devon project was a lovely old property with a stunning sea-view location. The owners were keen to extend upward and create more height.
They had spent three years in negotiations with the local planning authority, primarily because of the site’s conservation area status. This was further complicated by an adjoining Grade 2 listed terrace to one side of the property, and a Grade 1 listed building to the other side.
Following planning refusal, they finally gained permission through appeal. It was with some relief then that they were finally able to appoint Moduloft to construct and install the new roof extension without any further delays.
This property was a challenge, as it required the Moduloft team to create a bespoke design that would complement the period style of this stunning property and fit with the surroundings, while enhancing the overall look and style of the property.
The homeowners were looking to utilise the dwelling’s spectacular views by extending upwards, creating two new bedrooms and a bathroom. The window design and external finish with Spanish blue slate tiles has truly enhanced this grand property.
In a location like this we did face difficulties with our installation team. The tight access meant that the roof had to travel over the river and across the beach to be fitted. We gained lots of interest on the lift day, with many locals inquiring about the project, including a school outing. The lift went like clockwork and demonstrates our team’s ability to deliver across varying terrains.
The roof has transformed an incongruous building into a beautiful home that its harmoniously within its heritage surroundings.
