We have a grade2 listed property which has a large cat slide roof on the rear of the house. The galley kitchen runs most of the way along the rear and this is where we would love to extend the kitchen forming a garden room too. We wondered if this could be done any way without a glass link as we would love an opening and width of the room 3.8m
It’s very difficult to answer a question like this in general terms – what might be possible would be very specific to the individual building. Unfortunately the answer to each consideration would begin “it depends …”. The one thing that can be said with near certainty is that it depends on the age of the portion with the cat slide roof. If it is part of the historic building (not necessarily original but also part of its historic development) then I’m afraid there would be very little chance of the kind of intervention you suggest. However if it is a modern addition to the house there might be the potential for a well-designed substantial alteration. Several factors would need to be considered including the age, quality and condition of the cat slide portion and how well it complements the historic building.
