Build your dream home with confidence
BOOK YOUR TWO FREE TICKETS HEREOur self-build is nearly complete but we have been let down over the sale of our present home. We would like to stay overnight occasionally in the new house to finish off some joinery work and start the painting and paperhanging. Will we have to pay council tax on the new property if we stay there now and then?
Council tax takes effect after the work is completed and the property has been inspected and an assessment made by a valuation surveyor from the council. So if there is still work to be done it can’t be considered as being complete. Informal camping in your own house is not the same as occupying it. But if you are worried, I would check the local council to make sure.
