Cutting legal costs

I have come to an agreed price to buy a small garden plot from a neighbour. The plot is only 24m2, enough for me to build a workshop on. I have all the necessary paperwork from the land registry, so do I really need to involve solicitors?

There are books on DIY conveyancing which tell you how to do it. However, be wary of wading into such a highly technical area, especially if the land you’re buying attaches to your garden. Mistakes could lead to difficulties in selling your property in future. A better bet would be to phone around a number of solicitors or conveyancers, explain that it’s a very simple transfer of a small piece of land and ask for their best price.
