We own a plot of land and, for various reasons, have delayed starting the building work. The recent heavy rain has flooded the surrounding fields but our plot seems to be the last to recover and the ground is still spongy. What would be the cost of installing land drainage on the 50 x 30m plot?
To install perforated drainage pipes in trenches 1m deep dug by machine will cost about £20 per linear metre. But the distance between the trenches depends upon the severity of the problem. Trenches 10m apart would require approximately 160 linear metres of pipe costing £3,200. But you must consider where the excess water will go to. Look in Yellow Pages for a land drainage firm and ask for their advice.
