Post-and-beam self-build

My wife and I are both retired and, once we’ve sold the family home, are planning to self-build. We’d both like something traditional but relatively quick to build, and I had heard that a post-and-beam timber-frame house could fit the bill on both counts. Is this the case?

Post-and-beam is one of the oldest timberframe build methods, dating back thousands of years. Post-and-beam houses are relatively quick to build, although they do take longer to erect than a standard timber-frame. It should take about four weeks to erect the frame, put on an outer skin and also the roof of a four-bedroom post-and-beam. If you like exposed beams,
vaulted ceilings and large open-plan interiors characterised by prominent, visible wood, this type of build will be perfect for your new home.
