Build your dream home with confidence
BOOK YOUR TWO FREE TICKETS HEREHaving just completed my self-build and received the Completion Certificate how do I 'register' the property?
I have the Land Registry Title Plan Number for the site. My present house is located on the same plot/plan and I need to 'split' the plot and define the access as a shared access then sell my present house, moving into the new house.
To complicate matters further I will be splitting a barn on the plot, part remaining with the old house and part transferring to the new house. This is for garaging and workshop not 'residential'.
Is this done via the Land Registry or the Council and finally 'Deeds' - how do you obtain these? There is no lender involved.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks for a great magazine which has been a wealth of information during my build - a Potton timber frame.
My best advice would be that you seek advice from a conveyancer who can readily sort this out. Splitting ownership is done via the Land Registry, not the council. I wouldn’t recommend DIY conveyancing.
Do this via the Local Authority as they have to allocate addresses, and they will probably also tell Royal Mail and others who need to know (emergency services for example). You can also register on Royal Mail as long as you have the address from the LA.
