Roof lead flashing

I have a hidden valley trough with approx 8 mitres of lead flashing which requires to be re-sealed.

What is the best long lasting methos in re-sealing the lead flashing after raking out the old stuff:

I tend to favour Mortar.

However are the sealants any good and are they as long lasting as using Mortar.

If sealants are recommended, any particular recommendations of name or type.

Many thanks for any advise

I would not use mortar to seal your lead as hard mortar could potentially crack and become defective. There are roofing products available which could assist here. Try TOR Elastaseal which can be used to repair flat roofs or, alternatively, mastic asphalt could be a good solution. Finally, you could, of course, replace the old lead with new lead?
