Stone insulation

We have just bought a 200-yearold stone cottage and would like to insulate the solid, 40cm-thick walls. How should we go about this?

If you are considering rendering the outside of the cottage, then you can use an external insulation system with the render fi nish. This can use the high thermal mass of the walls for summer cooling and a more even winter temperature. If you are not rendering the exterior, you’ll need to fit an internal dry-lining system such as thermal plasterboard.
