GET TWO FREE TICKETS HEREI have just bought a property to renovate. It has beautiful hardwood flooring throughout that I would like to keep. The only problem is that where the previous owner put heavy furniture there are a number of unsightly scratches. How can I get rid of these, and what sort of tools will I need?
You’re extremely fortunate to have original hardwood flooring in your home – it is a very hard-wearing surface. You may be able to disguise the scratches by filling them with a coloured wax crayon (available from www.liberon.co.uk). If the floor is heavily scratched over a wide area, you might want to consider lightly sanding down the surface to even everything out. I recommend that you hire a floor sander, but only use the smoothest grit belts and only abrade the minimum amount of timber. Then, varnish or wax the floor to get the finish you want.
