Architect Andy Ramus, founder of AR Design Studio, shares how Minima’s ultra-slim sliding door system redefined one of his contemporary home projects. The original property consisted of multiple separate rooms, and the goal was to create an open, connected living space that would feel expansive, light-filled, and in tune with the outdoors.
Andy first discovered the Minima Sliding system on a project in Winchester and was immediately impressed by the craftsmanship and precision of its detailing. What stood out was the 20 mm slim sightline and the way the glass panels sit completely flush within the walls, ceiling, and floor — producing a seamless, minimalist finish. For him, this clean, understated design is what makes Minima exceptional: no bulky handles, no visible locking systems, no visual interruption.
Rather than designing the building first and fitting glazing around it, Andy worked in reverse — collaborating closely with Minima to explore what could be achieved with their system and letting those architectural details guide the structure. The result is a space that celebrates simplicity, light, and flow.
Even with the impressive size of each glass pane, the doors glide effortlessly, something that initially concerned the homeowners but proved to be one of the installation’s biggest delights. This smooth functionality, combined with the ultra-slim frame, makes it possible to keep the doors open much of the time, blurring the boundary between inside and out.
For Andy, Minima’s system doesn’t just complement modern architecture — it enhances it. It allows the design to breathe, framing the landscape like a living artwork and creating a home that feels elegant and calming. The transformation represents the perfect harmony of architectural vision and engineering precision, redefining what contemporary living can be.
