At SIPS Eco Panels, we’re proud to have played a key role in transforming Hartdene Barns — a former dairy farm in Kent — into a beautiful collection of high-performance, energy-efficient homes. Working alongside Q New Homes, we helped bring this ambitious vision to life, combining rural heritage with cutting-edge building technology to achieve net zero performance.

Our goal was to help retain the character of the original barns while creating modern, comfortable, and sustainable living spaces. Using our precision-engineered structural insulated panels (SIPs), we delivered a system that integrates structure, insulation, and airtightness in one. This approach allowed the build to go up quickly and efficiently, minimising disruption on site while ensuring outstanding thermal performance.

The results are exceptional. The homes achieved U-values as low as 0.07 W/m²K, offering superb energy efficiency, minimal heat loss, and a comfortable indoor environment all year round. By reducing thermal bridging and ensuring airtight construction, the homeowners benefit from lower running costs and long-term sustainability.

Our commitment to sustainability runs through every stage of the build, from using responsibly sourced timber and efficient offsite manufacturing to reusing offcuts and planning deliveries carefully — achieving around 40% lower embodied carbon than traditional construction.

Hartdene Barns showcases what’s possible when design, innovation, and sustainability come together — a true inspiration for self-builders who want to create beautiful, future-ready homes.
