Book here!We are new to self-building but are very competent DIYers and we intend to do a good amount of the work ourselves. Our plot has only a few sheds on it at the moment and we want to get services on site as soon as possible to save time later. (They are available in the road.)
As we have no house yet, we want to build an external box (or series of boxes) near the road and have electricity, water, gas and telephone connected to there. Ideally they would stay there when the house finished, so we’d like to build something sturdy and reasonably-looking.
Can anyone help with:-
– Is this a feasible solution?
– What sort of structure(s) should we build?
– Where do we find regs for the rules for this?
We know where to buy meter boxes and have found the electricity regs for connections but it’s the actual structure(s) that we’re struggling with. And do we need separate boxes/structures for each service a particular distance apart?
Any suggestions on sources of information on the Internet or good books to read would also be very much appreciated.
Thanks very much!
