Energy alternatives

We are planning to build a fourbedroom house in a village where there is no gas supply, so we’re limited to either electricity or oil for heating. What is the better of the two?

Electricity is probably the better choice, as it’s clean, available and reliable. Unsightly oil tanks and the problems of access for delivery in poor weather make oil a poor second. However, have you thought about a ground source heat pump? These extract solar heat from the ground and can sometimes provide all the energy you need without a boiler. Try suppliers such as www.ecoheatpumps.co.uk and www.icenergy.co.uk
