This tucked-away plot in central Ealing is the site of an exciting new project: a three-bedroom private dwelling designed to meet the rigorous Passivhaus standard, while going further with on-site energy generation through a solar PV roof array. The design incorporates large overhanging eaves and a south-facing veranda to the garden, carefully considered to reduce overheating risk and respond to London’s warming microclimate.
Initially, the existing chalet bungalow on the site was assessed for an EnerPHit retrofit, but after reviewing costs and practicality, the owners opted for a demolish-and-replace approach. The new design maximises energy efficiency and comfort, while creating a modern, low-carbon home in a central urban location. A full planning application was submitted in July, and a decision is still awaited, with the project poised to combine sustainability, resilience, and thoughtful architecture in the heart of Ealing.
