30th-31st May 2026 - time to get your dream home started!
GET TWO FREE TICKETS HEREI have planning permission to convert a brick built barn into a two bedroom house.
As I have limited funds it is my intention to purchase all the materials and do as much of the labouring work as possible, bringing in the tradesmen when each stage of the build has been prepared for them to start.
To confirm I am on the right track I would like any advice on how you would break the project down to the individual stages and the order in which to progress the build.
Alternatively are there any books/publications which cover this subject.
Thanks
John
Hi John,
We have plenty of relevant articles and guides that can help you through your barn conversion.
Build It’s historic building consultant Alan Tierney has recently written a step-by-step blog of his own period renovation, which you can read online here
We have also recently published A Complete Guide to Renovation, which takes you through the entire renovation process, from scheduling a scheme to restoring period features.
You can also learn about barn conversions specifically with resources like 14 Steps to a Successful Barn Conversion
Hope this is of help and good luck with your project!
