Query regards a galvanised plate inserted into brickwall

Can anyone advise why there is a sort of galvanised plate inserted into housewall above the recess where the wall lead flashing has been cut.

I donot know how deep the plate extends into wall, however reason I ask advise is ours has become slightly loose and it tends to allow driven rainwater to ingress into the wall, causing dampness.

Anyone advise how to make a long term seal around this plate?

Mant thanks

Without seeing exactly what you mean, it’s hard to answer with any certainty. It sounds like you might be referring to the flange of a pressed steel lintel. If it’s adjacent to your lead flashing, I’d be tempted to seal the gap with a lead flashing sealant like LeadMate or similar to make it watertight. If there’s any doubt, it might be worthwhile getting a local builder to take a look and advise the right solution.
