BOOK YOUR TWO FREE TICKETS HEREI am renovating my previously converted barn home and want to incorporate EMF shielding. I was looking at the mesh products - either a carbon coated mesh or stainless steel. I have now been told that as the walls have lime mortar and a lime based plaster inside, a mesh would not be suitable in contact with the lime. Do any of your experts know if this is correct and know of any more suitable product to incorporate in the roof and walls??
There might be some issues with using mesh with a lime plaster finish. I think the effectiveness of the mesh is reduced by moisture content of the plaster and the generally beneficial moisture buffering characteristics of lime tend to increase its moisture carrying capacity. There might also be concern about corrosion caused by the alkalinity of the lime – this should be minimal for carbon coated or stainless steel mesh and greatly reduced once the lime is fully carbonated.
An alternative, working with the breathable nature of the building, could be to incorporate a layer of clay plaster. There is increasing evidence in emerging studies of the ability of clay to filter many forms of radiation
