We use a 20mm thick, foil-coated XPS overlay panel with 150mm centred pre-routed channels, specifically designed to accommodate 16mm water-based underfloor heating pipes. Our panels are suitable for installation over a wide range of solid subfloors, including concrete, screed and asphalt, as well as suspended timber floors that have been properly boarded with tongue-and-groove or chipboard flooring. They are lightweight, easy to cut and quick to install, and are laid in a staggered brick-bond pattern to ensure stability and even load distribution.
Manufactured from high-density XPS rated at 300 kPa, the panels provide excellent thermal insulation while remaining waterproof and robust. The reinforced foil facing creates a durable surface that supports efficient heat transfer and allows for direct bonding of tiles, while also accommodating finishes such as engineered wood, carpet and vinyl with appropriate preparation. Designed for use over existing floors, our system delivers a low-profile build-up that is ideal for both new-build and retrofit projects in domestic and commercial environments.
In most cases, flooring can be laid directly onto the panels without the need for additional boards. Where required, we follow substrate-specific fixing methods, using mechanical fixings on timber bases and combed tile adhesive on concrete. Installed over a flat, level subfloor and used with a damp-proof membrane where necessary, our foil boards provide a fast, reliable and versatile underfloor heating solution.
