Come and see us 8th & 9th June for a whole weekend of self build inspiration
For info & free tickets worth £24 click hereWhile preparing footings for my dormer bungalow, we have hit bedrock on one third of the plot, but cannot find it on the rest of plot. The Building Inspector wants the entire house to be on bedrock. Is there an alternative, rather than digging until we eventually hit the bedrock? At the moment we have gone down 2.5m and have not found it at the front of plot.
By now I expect you have your answer. Foundation digging needs almost instant on-the-spot decisions made – when in doubt call in a structural engineer to evaluate the problem and advise you. The Building Inspector is obliged to accept an engineer’s design solution providing it is prepared in accordance with good practice, is supported by calculations, submitted in writing and most importantly is covered by professional indemnity insurance.
