National Custom and Self-Build Week 2018 will take place between the 7th-13th May and will include a series of events to help you discover the right route to your dream home.

Hosted by the National Custom and Self-Build Association (NaCSBA), it’s a chance for aspiring homebuilders to learn more about creating a bespoke dwelling designed around their lifestyle needs. Options could include working with a custom build developer or local housebuilder, or managing a self-build project yourself or as part of a community group.

If you’re searching for a plot for your project, it’s also a great opportunity to sign up to your local Right to Build register via the Right to Build Portal.

Every council in England is required to keep a list of individuals and groups who want to build their own home. A duty is then placed on local authorities to meet this demand within three years of sign up.

Michael Holmes, NaCSBA’s Chair, said: “NaCSBA believes that people commissioning or building their own home will play an increasingly important role in delivering the Government’s objective to build 300,000 new homes per year.

“Custom, Self-Build and community-led housing will transform how housing is delivered in the UK. Signing up to the Right to Build through the Right to Build Portal is the starting point in a journey that will give homebuyers a choice of serviced plot and the freedom to design the home they want to live in, which National Custom and Self-Build Week will support.

“NaCSBA is committed to growing the number of people signed up to the registers significantly, as it holds the key to more plots and sites coming to market.
