Skirting boards

One of the most common designs within the UK is the ‘Bullnose’ design. You’ll definitely have seen it – maybe in your own home or even at work! Because it’s so readily available from almost any skirting board company or builders merchant, most choose to use it on their construction projects.

It is sometimes referred to as ‘Pencil Round’ – rest assured they are both the same thing, if not really similar! It generally refers to the design being just a round on the top edge of the skirting.

It’s classed as an all round design because it works in almost any space. It’s simple and minimalistic so it won’t draw attention to itself (perfect if you want the focus to be elsewhere within the room).

It’s also a good choice if you want an easy job when it comes to painting. Because there’s no intricate detailing, painting is quick and it’s easy to achieve a high quality finish (even for DIYers!).

Generally speaking, this design works best on skirting boards that are no higher than 145mm. That’s not to say you can’t go higher, but taller skirtings are normally a statement within the home and therefore feature very detailed designs.

When looking for this design, be sure to check out our Bullnose MDF Skirting Boards. We always recommend MDF – it’s cheaper, easy to paint, contains no imperfections (like knots) and is moisture resistant!
