I have just completed a self build and am looking into how much VAT I'll be able to reclaim. Most of the building materials used were purchased through my own Limited Company and re-invoiced to myself. Will I still be able to submit these invoices to HMRC to make a claim?
Hi Richard,
Thanks so much for your question. Yes, the invoices from your Limited Company can be included in your VAT reclaim if they are solely for the supply of materials. If you/your company has reinvoiced yourself for the supply and fit of these materials then the zero VAT rate should have been used, as any VAT registered trades supplying and fitting/installing materials in your build can be charged at the 0% rate. If you have incorrectly charged yourself VAT you cannot reclaim from HMRC and the company/supplier needs to correct this through their accounting system.
Best of luck with the rest of your plans,
