A Dutch barn originally clad in timber received initial permission for conversion under Class Q. Ke-design collaborated with the developer, Dukecroft, on the internal layout and external look of the project. However, after work began, local planners required a full planning application, prompting the addition of a garage and balcony.
Although the Local Parish Council supported the project, the planning officer recommended refusal, sending the application to the planning committee. The planning officers argued that the barn had effectively become a new build, leading the committee to deny the application.
The client appealed, receiving full support from the inspectorate, allowing the project to proceed. Dutch barn conversions like this are increasingly popular for their blend of rural charm and contemporary design, offering open-plan living with spacious interiors that include four double bedrooms.
