How to Improve Extension Impact of Outlook

Hi,

We built a single storey extension at the rear of our detached house, abutting the boundary line. The extension is 7 metres deep, and c. 2.9metres high. The LPA want the extension to end at 4m depth, saying that the additional 3m depth is adversely impacting the outlook for the neighbour, who also has a detached house.

There is a passageway in between the two properties, but this passageway is the neighbours, which creates a gap of c. 1m between the neighbour's building and ours.

How can we prevent our single storey extension causing an adverse impact on the outlook for the neighbour, please?

I am afraid I don’t think you can. Did you secure planning consent for your extension in the first place and, if not, I assume that you were working on the basis that this extension could be carried out under permitted development (PD)? However, if you have pushed out to the side and up to the boundary then I don’t think PD would allow this which is presumably why the LPA have now got involved? If I’m right then I think in truth you will need to engage a planning consultant who can both visit your site and then advise you on your options. Sorry not to be more help.
