We own a piece of land adjacent to our house. It is a paddock of approximately a third of an acre. Trees border the land on three sides and the house and land are in a green belt area. Could we get planning permission for a house as infill building?
The answer to your question lies in your council’s planning policies, which you’ll find in its Local Plan. Some councils have policies that allow infi lling in green belt areas such as villages and loose-knit settlements. You should be able to look up the Local Plan on your council’s website. There’ll be a written document containing the policies and a series of maps showing where the various policies apply. If in doubt speak to a council planning officer. Bear in mind that in many green belt areas no new housing at all is allowed, including infilling. Also, where infilling is allowed, it is often defined as filing a narrow gap in an otherwise built-up frontage. From your description of the plot, it doesn’t sound very hopeful.
