In 2021, our clients purchased a plot just outside Dunkeld with the ambition of creating a highly efficient, low-carbon home. They project-managed the self-build themselves, working with several contractors to deliver a stunning four-bedroom property. From the outset, their vision was clear: a home with excellent insulation, reduced running costs, and a significantly smaller carbon footprint.
The build was designed with multiple self-sufficient features, including solar PV panels, a private borehole, and a Biodisc septic tank—bringing them close to living fully off-grid. Heating and hot water were central to the project, and they chose a Ground Source Heat Pump as the most sustainable long-term solution.
We installed a NIBE S1155-12 Ground Source Heat Pump, supported by the Scottish Government’s energy grant scheme, for which we provided the required certification. Although the homeowners acknowledged the system’s payback would take time—around 10–15 years—they saw it as an investment in both their own future and that of their grandchildren, ensuring the home sets a positive example in low-carbon living.
When selecting an installer, they wanted a company with both local presence and national experience. After comparing several quotes, they chose IMS—not only for our competitive pricing but also for our reputation and track record. We supported them at every stage, from surveying the trenches and planning the ducting layout, to supplying the system and overseeing installation.
The result is a sustainable home with efficient, renewable heating at its core. The clients praised our professionalism and ongoing support, saying we had “been with them all the way” and delivered “first-class” advice and installation.
