We need some independent advice on energy saving. Every firm we approached so far seems too keen to sell their own product and we feel their advice is based on their needs rather than ours. Is there such a thing as an independent energy consultant and where do we find one?
You can find plenty of useful information from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) website (www.energysavingtrust.org.uk) or contact local EST advice centres on 0800 512 012, including a range of energy-saving measures and an online questionnaire that enables you to carry out a free DIY home energy check. It can also provide details of any grants or offers available. If you need more in-depth independent advice on energy efficiency you may have to pay for it. For an in-depth survey on your home, try the National Home Energy Rating scheme (01908 672787, www.nher.co.uk). It offers a list of NHER-registered assessors for Building Control purposes, as well as assessors who can undertake an online energy audit of your home and give advice on improving energy efficiency.
