BOOK YOUR SLOT HEREFor this project, our customer wished to renovate an early 19th century farmhouse and rebuild two ruined barns on the property to match. He wanted a space which was both functional and true to the traditional rural building. His aim was to achieve this goal using reclaimed materials wherever possible. Rebuilding the barns entirely from reclaimed materials is no small task. Every brick and tile needs to be chosen carefully to ensure that the period integrity of the property as a whole was retained.
Both the single storey and double storey barns were rebuilt from the ground up using bricks that matched the original farmhouse. Our team carefully selected a batch of reclaimed 1800’s handmade bricks that shared the characteristics, colour and size of the farmhouse bricks. The same bricks, were also used to renovate the farmhouse itself, Areas where the original brickwork had failed were carefully removed out by hand, and replaced using the 1800’s handmade brick and lime mortar.
To top the barns, reclaimed handmade Staffordshire blue roof tiles were selected that again matched the original house. The colour and ‘consistent irregularity’ of the reclaimed roof tiles selected, were a perfect match to the roof on the original house.
Under the watchful eye of Conservation & Planning, this project was finished to the highest standard, using reclaimed materials sourced only from Cawarden.
