Can I use my new plot for a self build home?

9 May 2013

I have just bought a house with 7.7m of land on the side of the property. Do you think i would get planning to build a house on it, and what are the legal requirements?

Without any detailed information on your plot, it’s difficult to give any specific information on its development potential. Is it an urban or countryside location, for example? Is it within the ‘development boundary’ specified in your local authority’s Neighbourhood Plan? Have there been any previous applications to build on the plot, etc?

Here are a few articles elsewhere on the site that might be useful for you in identifying the site’s potential:

Hopefully those will get you started – by all means get in touch with more details about your plot if you want additional advice, either via the Q&As or by email on buildit[at]castlemedia.co.uk

Best of luck!
