How long is my builder responsible for my boiler?

I moved into my self build house on 10 December. The house was built by a builder and project managed by him. He supplied and fitted a boiler. Is there a period of time he is responsible for the boiler should it break down or should I take out cover now myself?

Thank you

    Hi Karen,

Thanks for your question – we’ll put it to one of our experts.

Some initial thoughts in the mean time. Firstly, if you took out a 10-year structural warranty on your build, this would usually mean that the builder/installer is responsible for dealing with any issues that arise within the initial 2-year defects period – and that should include the boiler.

In addition, new boilers should also come with their own guarantee/warranty from the manufacturer. To access a guarantee, there’s usually a requirement for the installation to be completed by an accredited pro, and registered with the manufacturer within a certain timeframe. Really you should have had a handover pack from your builder/installer that provides this information. If you don’t have it, I would strongly suggest chasing it up!
