Stephanie Rogers and John Bearman were originally searching for a period property to renovate and modernise. When the couple failed to find the perfect structure for the project, their architect suggested building their own bespoke home from scratch.

Overcoming their lack of construction experience with plenty of thorough research and advise from English Heritage, the couple were able to create a stunning three-storey build. Its contemporary interior contrasts with traditional, Arts & Crafts-inspired exterior details, helping the property to blend in with the street’s heritage architecture.

A distinctive eyebrow dormer window reduces the visual impact of the house on its neighbour and enhances the eclectic street scene.

Inside, a bespoke Shaker-style kitchen incorporates period design details including a traditional mantel shelf, framing the range cooker.
