Somerset Self Build

This unique self build originated as a desire to maximise the views from a stunning site in Bath. Timber Innovations was selected because of the company’s extensive experience with low-energy and challenging self build projects. The team were involved from the start (prior to planning being granted) which ensured the most efficient design integration of the factory-insulated superstructure solutions from Timber Innovations.

The home features a cantilevered section and Shou-Sugi-Ban charred timber external cladding. The factory-insulated, high performance timber frame panels from Timber Innovations were the perfect lightweight structural solution for the sloping site, which required concrete retaining walls. An MVHR system was installed, with all its ducts running through the frame’s metal-web joists. The energy efficient approach was assisted by the Timber Innovations team’s enhanced airtightness experience and developed early in the design phase.
