We were approached by a self builder to design and construct a five-bedroom family home in Wentworth, Rotherham. The homeowner was keen on timber frame construction and wanted an airtight envelope to keep its running costs low.
The homeowner had employed an previous architect to produce some draft designs that unfortunately wasn’t enough to gain planning permission, however, our in house design team worked closely with the clients design preferences and living requirements to come up with a design that not only were they happy with, but achieved the planning we needed to start the project.
The house was built on traditional block and beam foundations and the timber frame was constructed off-site and craned into position. It took eight days to build the frame into position, and another week for the building to be watertight.
We finished the external house in lime render and clay tiles, and the internal walls were finished with Italian stone floors throughout the downstairs, and the upper floors have a mixture of engineered wood flooring and carpet. The house benefited from a wood fireplace built to look like inglenook and wood burning stoves.
Finally, the a gravel driveway and grassed backyard surrounding a double garage
