I’ve had a few clients that have “had a go” at designing their homes using various modelling software.
One that springs to mind is the 3D Home Designer programme that Build It has demonstrated at the live events.
As architects we use tried and tested programmes such as AutoCad, Revit and SketchUp which are very accurate. As a design tool probably Sketchup is an easier one to practice with but ultimately you need to know what you are drawing and that it is buildable and complies with a raft of legislation.
I would suggest that using these design programmes is useful in helping you start to shape some ideas but once you get serious you need a professional to develop these preliminary ideas and help you turn them into a reality.
