We have just started a new build and the house is over 45m from the highway.
Does a fire suppression sprinkler system need to be installed or can we install a water hydrant for the fire brigade to attach to?

You don’t say where you are – if you are in Wales, then a sprinkler system is mandatory. In England, it’s all about how close a fire tender can get to your property and that is all about the with of access roads and turning circles.
I suggest a quick call to your local Building Control office or a chat with your Approved Inspector if you’ve used a private company for the Regulations approval.
Ask what they would expect to see installed, after all, it is they who will sign off the property when the Completion Certificate is issued, so they are best placed to answer the question.
