BOOK YOUR SLOT HEREFor Kerry and her family, self building was driven by a need for space, light and flexibility after years of urban living. During Covid, Kerry – a commercial illustrator – found herself working from the kitchen table of a two-bedroom London flat while raising a young family.
With roots in Campbeltown, the Oban area felt like a natural fit. Initially searching for two homes – one for themselves and one for Kerry’s parents – the family instead found two side-by-side plots. Kerry’s parents built first, with both families living together until the second house was completed. Their priority was a home that supported family life while providing a dedicated, light-filled studio space. HebHomes’ LH202D design was adapted to include an additional window, creating the calm, creative workspace Kerry needed. “The house was designed exactly how we wanted to work for us as a family,” she says.
HebHomes’ supply-and-erect SIPs package appealed for its flexibility and clarity. Once assembled, local contractor Rochead & Irvine took the works forward to completion, with Kerry’s father project managing both builds. “It’s really hard to go away to another house now,” says Kerry. “This is such a nice place to come home to, we feel like we’re on holiday, especially when the sun is shining and the sea is sparkling.” Finished in just nine months, the project demonstrates how adaptable kit design, combined with local skills, can deliver a deeply personal home.
