Planning Permission for Air Source Heat Pump?

Hi,

I'm just planning to start a self-build project and would like to use an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP), rather than a gas boiler for heating.

Do I need to obtain additional planning permission for this, or do we automatically get permission, providing it meets the criteria set out under permitted planning development, even though this is a new-build?

With Kind Regards

Emma

An ASHP is not normally a planning issue unless you were intending to stick a large air handling unit on the front elevation – which is unlikely. There is generally no significant impact on appearance.

NB – I would advise underfloor heat distribution if thinking of using an ASHP – the larger the heat emitter the lower the running temp so the more efficient the pump.
