Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps use heat stored naturally in the ground to provide heating and hot water. They’re particularly well suited to self-builds and properties with sufficient outdoor space, where the ground collector can be incorporated into the project from an early stage.

Heat can be collected using horizontal ground loops installed in trenches or vertical boreholes, depending on the site, available land and ground conditions. Because ground temperatures remain relatively stable throughout the year, a well-designed ground source system can deliver highly efficient, consistent heating even during the coldest weather.

We have been designing and installing ground source heat pump systems for more than 25 years. We aren’t tied to one manufacturer, giving us the flexibility to select equipment to suit the individual property and project.

We install ground source heat pumps from manufacturers including NIBE, CTC, Ecoforest and Viessmann, with strong manufacturer relationships providing access to technical support, spare parts and extended warranties on many of the systems we install.

Our team designs the complete system, including heat-loss calculations, heat pump sizing, ground collector requirements, hot water and heat emitters. Ground source heat pumps work particularly well with underfloor heating, although they can also be designed to work effectively with appropriately sized radiators.
