The Thomases: Living the Dream at Wellbank

For Lynn and Kevin Thomas, moving to Wellbank brought together two lifelong ambitions: living in the Lake District National Park and building a bespoke family home.

Having holidayed in the Lakes for more than 25 years, Lynn always dreamed of calling the area home. Kevin, meanwhile, had wanted to design and build his own house since his teenage years. When the couple discovered Wellbank, they realised they could achieve both.

After selecting their plot in March 2023, construction began later that year. By November 2024, they had moved into their beautifully designed four-bedroom home, complete with open-plan living spaces, home offices, a gym, and stunning picture windows overlooking the surrounding fells.

“Everything about the house is designed around the way we live our lives,” says Kevin. “That’s the beauty of creating your own home.”

The Thomases embraced Wellbank’s focus on wellbeing and sustainability. Their home features high-performance insulation, an air source heat pump, solar panels, battery storage, underfloor heating, and an MVHR system. The result is an EPC A-rated property with exceptionally low running costs – at one point costing just 71p to power for an entire week.

Today, the couple enjoy the tranquillity of the Western Lakes, working remotely with superfast fibre broadband and spending their free time exploring the landscape on their doorstep.

“We absolutely love it here,” says Lynn. “I still have to remind myself that I’m not on holiday.”

For the Thomases, Wellbank is more than a place to live – it’s the fulfilment of a dream decades in the making.
