Charming Oak Frame Home on a Custom Build Site

David and Mhairi wanted to move closer to their family, to a home that suited them down to the ground. “We were keen to construct something entirely to our specification, as we’ve spent a lot of time and money adapting previous houses,” says Mhairi. One of Oakwrights’ custom build sites, Church View in Herefordshire, had seven plots available, each with planning permission already in place. The pair fell in love with the development, and Oakwrights’ turnkey service enabled them to build their dream oak home – based on the company’s Church and Manuka Cottage designs – alongside their busy lives.

“We were clear from the outset that we wanted the oak frame to be prominent inside the structure – especially with the vaulted ceilings upstairs, but also the double-height face glazed gable housing our staircase,” explains David. “The veranda allows us to use the garden in all types of weather and it’s a really sociable space.” Mhairi continues: “We both have busy jobs and no expertise in construction. Our turnkey managers took care of our entire build and we are immensely grateful for all their time.”
