Build It‘s inaugural awards were launched at a fabulous gala ceremony, hosted by comedian Tony Hawks, at the National Self-Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon. The Build It Awards 2012, in association with BuildStore, celebrated all aspects of self-build and renovation, including completed projects, products, services and suppliers.

Several key categories, including Best Self-Build or Renovation, were voted on by Build It readers. All other entries judged by a panel of industry experts, chaired by Build It‘s editor, Anna-Marie DeSouza.

Five homes – all of which had been featured in Build It magazine over the previous 12 months – were shortlisted in the Best Self-Build or Renovation category, sponsored by Brandon Hire. Each project was chosen for its innovation, sustainability and excellence of design. The winner was selected in an online poll, with two homes battling for supremacy right to the wire.

The winning project (pictured above) belongs to Paul and Kathy Fearn and was designed by CODA Studios. The ultra-contemporary dwelling in Sheffield made great use of a potentially difficult site to create a bright, efficient and extremely attractive family home.
