The National Custom and Self Build Association (NaCSBA) has announced the return of National Custom and Self Build Week 2019 from the 6-12 May.

This year they are partnering with Grand Designs Live to host a series of events celebrating and promoting custom and self build as a route to building a dream home.

The week is also an opportunity for people to learn more about the different routes to home ownership, such as custom building, different construction options and where to go for help and advice.

NaCSBA believes that custom and self build delivers more and better homes that more people aspire to live in and that communities are happier to see built, than traditional ‘bulk build’ projects.

And according to the Government housing white paper, custom build homes are generally built more quickly and to a higher quality than other homes.

“It is surely no coincidence that the UK has both an acute housing shortage and lower rates of custom and self build compared to other developed countries,” says Michael Holmes, NaCSBA’s char. “This week will highlight the potential of the sector and showcase what could and should be an exciting future for housing.”

The National Custom and Self Build Week will link with Grand Designs Live to see a variety of talks hosted by Kevin McCloud.

The topics will be themed around “Busting the myths of Self Build”. This sets out simple misconceptions around the difficulty of creating your own home by custom or self building.
